ORPC’s Scouting Ministry provides fun, fellowship, and training to our youth as well as to youth in our community. It emphasizes honesty, self-reliance, and respect. The program affects character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
Ten Reasons to Consider Scouting
1. Fun with a Purpose
Scouting provides youth with programs that allow them to:
- Try new things
- Provide service to others
- Build self-confidence
- Reinforce ethical standards
- Receive lifelong learning
- Live healthy
2. Doing a Good Turn Daily
Scouting encourages young people to recognize the needs of others and take action accordingly.
3. Character Building
Young people need to know to be good and to do good. Scouting teaches values and responsibility to our children – not only right from wrong, but specific, affirmative values such as fairness, courage, honor, and respect for others.
4. Duty to God
Scouting encourages each young person to begin a spiritual journey through the practice of his or her faith tradition.
The ministry of Christ revolves around the profound concept of reaching out to others.
Scouting is one potential entry point for persons to join the church, which then has the opportunity to introduce, nurture and strengthen a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Scouting offers opportunities for older adults as well as youth to participate.
Scouting programs exist for both girls and boys.
9. PRAY Awards
Age-appropriate study series that focuses on discipleship, family, and service.
10. Community Service Projects
Scouts do their best to help other people every day and group service projects are a bigger way to help people.
